The history behind hair transplants. So what is a transplant? Hair loss can occur for several reasons its clear men are affected; however, women are also impacted. Losing hair can be down to genetics, diet, illness, treatments and so on. All of this can lead to loss of confidence and low self-esteem. Hair transplants have helped many over the years it’s helped those who have suffered their freedom back.
First of all, we need to know what a transplant consists of. Hair transplantation methods falls into two types. Starting with FUT treatment, the name is otherwise known as Follicular Unit Transplantation. Now you’re probably reading this and wondering what this means? Let me now elaborate. A strip of skin with hair from the donor site is transferred to the bald recipient site. The other type is also known as FUE also known as Follicular Unit Extraction. This is a single hair transplantation. What happens here? The individual hairs with their follicles are taken from the donor site, processed in a solution (Nutrient) and then transplanted into the recipient area. The procedure has been around for decades and has changed at lot of lives.
First known transplant to take place
The first-ever known transplant documented in Germany back in 1822, was listed by a medical student and his teacher. It was a simple procedure where one hair was moved from an area of one’s head to another. Be clear that many named it a success; however, nothing came of it.
For centuries, many attempted to find a cure for baldness on women and men. It all started in 1939 in Japan where the first transplant procedures ever took place by Dr Shoji Okuda. Research shows that Dr Shoji Okuda used dermal punches to remove hair-bearing skin from the side and the back of the patient’s scalp and then grafted the segments on to the bald scalp or eyebrow. Unfortunately, this was all forgotten as World War II took over.
The father of hair transplantation
The 1950’s Hair Transplants struck back, and all of the developments made in Japan came over to the United States of America. A Dr Norman Orentreich, a New York Dermatologist, began to look at treatments for baldness in men and women at the New York University’s skin and cancer hospital.
In 1952 Dr Noman Orentreich carried out his first-ever Hair Transplant such an achievement designed to treat baldness. It wasn’t until 1959 his study was published. In 1959 when Dr Orentreichs study was released, he mastered the term donor, which shows that he transplanted hair skill exhibits, the traits of the area from where taken. It’s known that Dr Orentreich used 4 millimetre graft sizes and at the time would be classed as large as you can imagine, this wouldn’t look natural. Even though the graft sizes were large, they were still used right up until the 70s and 80s, they eventually became known as hair plugs.
Dr Orentreich went on to create some of the biggest makeup and skincare brands in the world such as Clinique and Estee Lauder. Dr Orentreich was the first-ever president of the Americans Society for Dermatologic surgery.
In the 80s and 90s, Micrografts and micro came around, and they were used to help soften the hairline. While mini-grafts filled out the areas, these were carried out in sessions rather than larger parts which could be done all at once.
Most modern technique
The modern technique developed in the 1990’s where the Dr harvested individual hairs, this is FUE treatment (Follicular unit Extraction). Using a small punch tool with a small diameter and a micro motor, hairs get transplanted to the desired area both the donor site and the receiving site. Then numbed using a local anesthetic. The procedure provides natural results without scaring and pain. Follicular Unit Extraction has developed over the years, and the FUE and FUT treatments are more popular than ever.
The FUT treatment (Follicular Unit Transplantation) also known as strip harvesting is done using local anesthetic. A strip of hair from the head is taken; this tends to taken from the back or sides. Once taken, it’s then transplanted into the bald areas known as the donor supply.
Eyebrows can make your face look instantly younger and define who you are it also plays a massive part in your profile even if the eyebrows are thin, they don’t need to be big and bushy. Still, if left without brows, it can instantly affect the self-esteem and confidence of many. Having a hair transplant can provide you with brows you have always wanted.
